New commenting system

    Posted by Adam Crouch

I just got done installing a new commenting system, to replace Haloscan. I installed the Metempsychosis Comments Hack and the Farrago Recent Comments Hack, both from BloggerHacks.

It takes Blogger's commenting system, and modifies it to allow people to make comments with their name on it without registering. The comments are also permanent, unlike Haloscan comments, which disappear after a few months.

The comments now work much like MoveableType comments -- they appear directly on the post page itself, and the form to add new comments is at the bottom of the post page. Haloscan is gone for comments, but I'm still using it for trackbacks, at least until anyone can suggest a replacement.

You'll also notice a new addition to the right-hand side bar. There is now a display showing recent comments that have been made.

I've ported all of the Haloscan comments over to the new commenting system, so your comments haven't been lost. The timestamps are wrong, but there's not much I can do about that.

Let me know what you guys think of this mod. Hopefully it will make conversation easier, and will promote some good discussion.

Thanks to everyone who's been commenting so far!
